Valérie Barkowski, designer linens from Marrakech. Handmade, enduring, and personal.

A world shaped by time, craft and intention
For close to thirty years, Valérie Barkowski has designed home linens, textiles, and accessories that go beyond decoration. Each piece is part of a deeper practice, where hand embroidery, sustainable craftsmanship, and small-batch production offer an alternative to industrial luxury.
As a Belgian designer based in Morocco, she works in close dialogue with local artisans, developing a language of simplicity, repetition, and detail. Her collections are made in Marrakech, by hand, in limited series. They move at a different pace, slower, focused, shaped by the time it takes to do things properly. In every gesture, from thread to texture, from object to space, there’s a commitment to ethical home decor and meaningful design. No excess. No compromise. Just carefully made objects, created to last.
Three places, one approach
Design. Experience. Transmission. The world of Valérie Barkowski unfolds across three spaces: the Marrakech atelier, a boutique in the medina, and a curated e-shop.
Each expresses a different facet of the brand: the act of making, the experience of living with the pieces, and the desire to share them more widely.
From handmade cushions and throws to artisan-made bedding, every product carries the same commitment, a 360° approach to sustainable homeware. Orders are prepared with the same care as in a couture workshop, with attention to material, gesture, and finish.

The atelier: crafted in Marrakech
The heart of the brand is the atelier, a working space where hand embroidery, small-batch craftsmanship, and artisanal production take place. Every item begins here, with a drawing, a research process, a team of local artisans who understand both the time and care the work requires.

The boutique: timeless interiors in the medina
The boutique is located in the heart of Marrakech’s medina. It offers a selection of luxury home linens, handmade accessories and objects, set in a scenography that evolves with the seasons, the light, and the inspiration of the moment. X Some pieces—one-of-a-kind or in limited editions—are available only here. They belong to the place, and to the kind of memory one brings back from a true journey.

The e-shop: a curated selection of handmade homeware
The online store extends the experience to an international audience. Here, you’ll find essential pieces from the collections, each one crafted in Marrakech, in small runs, using natural cotton linens, hand stitching, and enduring design principles.
Our home linens, essentials to keep
Iconic pieces, made to be used, lived with, and kept. Combed cotton duvet covers, hand-embroidered towels, table linen for everyday use and more. Each one artisan-made, in Marrakech.
Dar Kawa, a different idea of hospitality
A confidential riad, a different way of seeing
Dar Kawa is a 17th-century riad in the medina of Marrakech, restored and designed by Valérie Barkowski. It is both a guest house and a home, a personal vision of hospitality, shaped by simplicity, care, and everyday rituals.
Everything is made with intention and it offers thoughtful design throughout. Reservations are made by email only. From the first contact, the Dar Kawa experience is direct, and human.

The Journal: stories, people, places
The journal is a place to reflect and document. It offers notes from the studio, stories from the boutique, and insight into the daily practice of textile design. Portraits, long reads, and travel notes offer another way into the brand’s world, personal, steady, and real.
