Aya flat sheet: the precision of hand-crafted passementerie balls

The hem of this flat sheet highlights the meticulous work and geometric character of the Aya collection. The thread balls, hand-shaped one by one by our artisans, create a structured border that fits soberly into contemporary interiors.

An Aya ball is constructed with needle and thread, sometimes around a small core of rolled newspaper—an ancestral Moroccan skill, similar to crochet, for a dense result that keeps its shape when washed. This work is done at home by a network of women coordinated by an intermediary; the finished balls are then checked and assembled at the Marrakech atelier. The Aya flat sheet features 65 balls, sewn one by one across its width.

Care instructions

This combed cotton flat sheet requires a 40°C machine wash with a delicate detergent, in a protective laundry bag to preserve the texture of the balls. The thread of the balls is fade-resistant. Air drying outside is preferred to preserve the overall structure of the fabric and the shape of the balls. Iron on the reverse side to preserve the texture of the balls. Each ball is individually sewn: if one comes loose, it can simply be sewn back on.

Important point: the Aya finish is incompatible with the use of a calender, as the pressure irreversibly flattens the balls. For linen intended for industrial laundry treatment (notably hotels), we recommend another finish from the collection.
