Aya duvet cover: handmade pom-pom trim all around
On this large-format combed cotton piece, the Aya finish creates a linear textile frame that highlights the complete perimeter. Each pom-pom is individually crafted, worked by needle by our artisans, then evenly arranged along all four edges of the white fabric. This precise alignment establishes the timeless character of this historic collection conceived in 1997.
Each pom-pom is born from a needle and thread, sometimes around a small core of rolled newspaper – an ancestral Moroccan craft technique, similar to crochet, creating a dense pom-pom that holds its shape wash after wash. This work is done at home by a network of women coordinated by an intermediary; the finished pom-poms are then inspected and assembled at the Marrakech workshop. An Aya duvet cover requires approximately 400 pom-poms, sewn one by one on all four sides.
The history and secrets of our craftsmanship can be discovered in our Valérie Barkowski House Journal (valeriebarkowski.com/fr/blog/), and particularly in the article “The manufacturing secrets of our AYA bed linen“.

Care instructions
To care for this combed cotton duvet cover, use a 40° machine cycle with mild detergent, in a protective mesh bag to preserve the raised texture of the pom-poms. The pom-pom thread is colorfast. Air drying remains the preferred method to respect the original structure of the fibers and pom-poms. Iron on the reverse side to preserve the raised texture of the pom-poms. Each pom-pom is individually sewn: if one comes loose, it can simply be sewn back on.
Important point: the Aya finish is incompatible with the use of a calender, as the pressure irreversibly flattens the balls. For linen intended for industrial laundry treatment (notably hotels), we recommend another finish from the collection.

“Our workshop configures the dimensions and shades of pom-poms in the Aya range to meet the requirements of prestigious residential projects. For any professional laundry project (hospitality), please verify compatibility with the Aya finish beforehand (see Care Instructions)”.
