The Ozera Nil placemat is characterized by its free-form and irregular silhouette, like an island placed on the table. In ecru or bleached raw cotton, and in two sizes, it can be freely arranged as a centerpiece. In its Nil finish, it is finished with a hand-twisted thread, without the passementerie pompoms that characterize other pieces in the collection.

The OZERA NIL placemat features a free-form, irregular shape, like an island or a pool of water on the table—a signature style that sets it apart from all other classic table linens. In its Nil finish, the edge is finished with a hand-twisted thread, hand-spun by our artisans.
Unlike other NIL pieces, there are no knots or passementerie pompoms here: only the thread, in its purest form, highlights the irregular contour of the piece.
The model is available in two sizes: a small format, scaled as a classic individual placemat, and a large format, designed for two people when used face-to-face.
Beyond its use as a placemat, Ozera can also become a centerpiece: several pieces can be freely arranged on the surface, like islands scattered at random.
On the Ozera, the Nil finish is intentionally limited to the twisted thread: no pompoms, no knots. It is the most minimalist version of NIL passementerie in the entire collection. The thread is hand-twisted by skilled artisans with the same precision as the rest of the collection, but its role here is purely linear: to highlight the free-form contour of the piece without punctuating it.

“I had this idea during Covid. I was thinking a lot about table linens since we had all the time in the world to think about cooking and setting beautiful tables. I needed a playful table; placemats and tablecloths bored me. So I made a sketch in my large notebook; the idea of islands was born.
I looked for a name for them: I thought of ‘island’ in Russian, but I was mistaken; ‘ozera’ means lake. I kept the name because it also looks like a lake, a puddle—it’s whatever your imagination sees.” Valérie Barkowski
