The TRASS flat sheet, in white mercerised combed cotton, is made in our Marrakech workshop, where each line is hand-embroidered. Across the width, it is finished with a running-stitch line—small 3 to 5 mm segments—drawn from Kantha embroidery in southern India.

Unlike the pillowcase or the duvet cover from the same collection, where the Trass embroidery frames all four sides, the TRASS flat sheet stands out for an even more discreet line: a single embroidered line, set across the width of the piece.
On the TRASS flat sheet, as on the Nil model, the Trass embroidery is limited to the width of the piece, along the edge.
The line remains the same: a running stitch worked in small 3 to 5 mm segments, yet the straightness required over such a length calls for particular focus from our artisans.

As with the rest of the collection, this embroidery takes its name from the line itself. Yet its inspiration travels far beyond Marrakech:
Originating in Bengal, in India and Bangladesh, Kantha is an ancestral embroidery technique: using layered old textiles, village women would create, in running stitch, pieces destined for a second life—a know-how passed down through generations.
The running stitch is known for its simplicity, but also for the demand for regularity it places on the hand that works it.
“I saw the running stitch endlessly in southern India, where embroiderers practise Kantha: a quick embroidery, done freehand, with very little thread. It was this restraint that made me want to bring it to Marrakech.
But in transposing it, our artisans made it their own: they chose to work with more thread, and the line—now laid perfectly straight along the edge—demands a precision I hadn’t imagined at the outset.
What was meant to be a simple, quick technique became, in their hands, a different finish—almost more exacting than the one that inspired it. That’s what I love about a craft travelling from one country to another: it is never copied; it is reinvented.”
Discreet and precise, the TRASS flat sheet coordinates with all V.Barkowski collections, without restriction. It resonates particularly with the house’s most pared-back finishes, such as Dots or Yumi, whose restraint mirrors its own. As always, mixing pieces remains a matter of personal sensibility—feel free to compose as you wish.
Cotton thrives on simplicity: a 40°C delicate wash, preferably air-dried, and a low-temperature iron are enough to preserve the TRASS flat sheet’s drape over time.
As always, separate light and dark colours. This particularly robust finish also withstands professional wash cycles used in hotel laundries with ease.
